Scott Pilgrim vs The World, the iconic graphic novel turned into a movie version, has become a Cult classic ever since the release in theaters in 2010. Fans have always praised the big-screen version, but often wondered about possibly a cartoon version coming soon. Well, the wait is over!

A new version of Scott Pilgrim is coming to audiences! The iconic graphic novel story will be getting a new version, this time in Anime form, with the original cast from the 2010 movie version.

Though there aren’t any dates yet for the release, the excitement has certainly been on the rise for Scott Pilgrim fans. The original graphic novel was full of visual elements which sometimes were hard to recreate on the big screen, though the 2010 version did an impressive job at capturing the comic-book feel of Scott Pilgrim.

It was impressive enough to charm long-time fans of the original story and engage new fans, who increasingly grew to love the nostalgic graphic aspects of the movie. It wasn’t without a few flaws, though: it wasn’t a movie for general audiences and the die-hard fans of Scott Pilgrim found fault in many directing choices regarding the original story, particularly about certain romantic and character development aspects between the show’s titular romantic interests for Scott.

The relationship with Knives, a 16-year-old girl who is infatuated with him, could easily be seen as polemic by today’s standards regarding “grooming” and age gaps, besides showcasing Scott’s “emotional irresponsibility”. Furthermore, Ramona eventually became one of the most iconic examples of Manic Pixie Dream Girls ever, a trope that has long since been discredited and criticized as sexist and shallow as it fails to showcase women as anything more than quirky romantic interests with no individual depth, dreams or motivations of their own.

Those aspects could all be revamped for the new Anime series, which, as it will be entirely animated, could fulfill all Scott Pilgrims fans’ dreams of a visually enticing adaptation as creative as the original graphic novels. And, with the whole cast returning to take part in the project, movie fans will be able to revisit the incredible performances of these actors, who were unanimously praised at the time.

“"One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim. Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project. Until now…,"”
